A series of strong earthquakes has jolted the region around Naples, Italy, prompting the closure of schools in the city as a precaution. Thousands of tremors have been recorded in the region this year, including several with magnitudes above 3.0, which are considered strongly felt.
The latest earthquake occurred on Monday evening, shaking the area near the major southern Italian city of Naples. The震源(しんげん) was located in the Phlegrean Fields, a volcanic area west of Naples. This area has experienced bradyseism, or slow-moving earthquakes, in the past, causing the ground to rise and fall.
