BERLIN (AP) — Maximilian Krah, the lead candidate for the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the upcoming European elections, announced Wednesday that he will dismiss a top aide.
The decision follows controversial comments made by the aide, whose identity was not disclosed, regarding the party's stance on immigration. Krah, who is also a member of the European Parliament for the AfD, has faced criticism for his own past statements about Muslims and refugees.
"My statements have been worded out of context and are being misused to hurt the AfD," Krah wrote on Twitter.
